The Light of a Good Day

Today is a good day
For I have opened my eyes today
They have seen
The beauty in the light that streams
Through the open window
They have seen
The Cardinal fly
Through the crisp, morning air
Glowing wings beating bright against a world of grey

I ask only
That these eyes not close too soon
That I am able to observe
All that I am meant to
All that shines around me
That I am able also
To recognize
All that shines within
To see myself
In all these scenes I hold so dear
To see the sublime glow
Of all that is
In the form which I call myself

When these eyes finally close
May the thoughts of what was
Settle softly as fresh snow on the fields of my mind
All wrongs forgiven
No gifts forsaken
Never forgotten
But neither held too tightly
That when I am blessed once again
With a day renewed
When my eyes open once more
I might see the world anew
My eyes might bring to my life
The light of a good day

    1. Thank you, Elle! I actually spooked this particular bird from a bird feeder near my house on a morning walk with my dog. There was a very thin dusting of snow from the night before on the ground, and the air was still below freezing but the sun was shining. It was quite beautiful.

    1. Thank you, Sadah! I really appreciate that… Do you have a dedicated blog or a page that shows your posts? I like to read the writing of others who comment or like my writing, but I am not able to find your posts within the Ascerblog feed.
