For Angi. I am so grateful for your friendship, your love, your kindness, and all of the positive energy that comes with it. You are a perfect example of how, together, we all shine brighter. 💙
From this vantage point it would appear
that the points of light
are very near,
a mural, hung
high in the sky
on the canvas of an inverted sphere.
Alas, these objects, comet or star,
they are distant,
from here where we are,
and lonesome, each
their hearts, apart,
the space between them vast and far.
Tonight, aligned, two rocks like ours,
though they are not will look like stars,
and bright to light the night they’ll be,
with hope for all who, with good fortune, see.
With this, the solstice,
we perform winter rites,
to signal dark and lonely days,
and shorter, but also colder nights,
yet as Zeus and Cronus,
sky and time,
at last coalesce and realign,
we hope this ancient, luminous sign
serves to remind each one,
of what lies inside,
for though distant,
and with tired eyes,
we can still one another find,
and together, of one heart and mind,
brightly and with brilliance shine.
