For today’s reading, I decided to go WAY outside of my comfort bubble and try singing this piece, as it was originally intended. I am in no way a vocalist, and this was pretty intimidating for me, but also a lot of fun. I had enjoyed singing a few sings at karaoke last year (2019), but outside of that, I have never sang and really know nothing about it from a technical perspective, outside of appreciation for the work others have done.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did. 💙
The original piece is below for reference, and can be found it its entirety at https://objectsanddistance.com/2020/03/22/falling-closer-together-we-will-not-fall-apart/
Lately I
Feel often like crying
I cannot stop sighing
Say I’m fine
But I’m lying…
And some days I
Want to stop trying,
I dream often of dying…
Oh, it hangs in my mind
Almost all of the time.
And now we find
We must remain inside
Far from the others:
Our sisters and brothers,
Fathers and mothers,
Once partners and lovers,
Now we have only pillows and covers…
And it is starting to feel
Like we are falling away,
With each passing day,
Falling further astray,
And I don’t want to fall any further;
I don’t know how much more we can take.
But if we fall,
We fall closer together,
And no matter the weather,
Through wind and through rain,
Through joy and through pain,
We will remain.
We will not lose heart.
And at least that’s a start,
We’re in this forever,
There’s nothing can sever
Our love;
We will not fall apart.
