You have a right
A responsibility even
To speak
So do so now
Let the words spill
From your heart
To carry your soul’s song
To lift it high
That all might know
You
As you deserve to be known
As you are
Beautifully unique
A shining gem
Tossed amongst the sand of this world
Hidden beneath
The layers of silt
Brought in day and night
By the tide
Waves upon waves
Crashing down
Upon the shores
In which you reside

    1. 🙂 I was inspired by reading a new followers post about how they were feeling self-conscious about their writing, comparing it to the work of others, as we all do so often with our critical minds. It made me really think, and I wanted to convey how much I truly believe that each individual voice is valuable in it’s uniqueness. I love so dearly all of the different styles and perspectives that can be found here, and consider every one of us to be equals and peers in a grand conversation. It makes me very happy that you are empowered by this as such.

      1. I felt the undercurrent of your powerful feelings through the words you chose. When you are inspired by a really strong emotion this is the result, words that affect another’s heart. How wonderful that you want to offer this encouragement! We are indeed either too self-conscious or just purely afraid of the reaction our writing is going to receive, hence we hold back, because our words are our feelings set free to the world. You are so right, we are all different and beautiful in our writing styles and presentation of thoughts. I love your justifications and it’s a pleasure to read you even though I don’t comment often, the words are treasured.

Your writing is so unique and beautiful, full of self but reflective of a compassion for and understanding beyond.   3. I like this, not only freedom or the ability that speak when you want, but a responsibility to ones self and others — to a persons being. You call the subject a “shining gem” despite the waves, silt, etc. All these metaphorical things in life, but he or she still is brilliant and had this uniqueness to their person that must be heard, not hidden.     1. Exactly right, Mandibelle. I really do believe that the drive to share oneself is just as critical as the drive to feed, to drink, to breathe. The spirit must connect to survive, and the beautiful/dangerous part of this is that it is an interplay, it is an active system where we all must do our part. To hide oneself away not only deprives that individual the joy of being known, but it excludes them from the network of others, limiting the potential for connection and understanding.

    1. Thank you for the warm and bright words. I am glad that I shared a bit of the background behind this; I tend to leave out context, to allow others to form their own stories, but this seemed a case where it might be valuable as the subject is just as much those who read as anyone else.
