Born of a Future Unrealized

We all begin
With a bright light
At our center
Illuminating all we are
But it is also from this center
That we expand outward
In our awareness
And as such
There is much of ourselves
That goes unseen
Even by our own eyes

The light shines broadly
Though time brings empty voids
There are always patches
Where beams fall unobstructed
And here we see clearly
What is
What could have been
And what still can be
In the static scenery
As well as
Multitudinous minuscule beings
Born of
A future unrealized

By the time we have made progress
In our pioneering journey
Through this frontier
We often find the landscape strewn
With monoliths
And tangled brambles grown
From failed gardens
And mutated monuments

There are shadows cast
From these towering figures
Potential lives still
Even in the darkness
Where form is divorced of function
Where order falls from failed foundations

It is here
That our demons thrive
In areas unobserved
Where can be found
Bizarre representations
Of self
Immanifest
What was once
Unaltered
Untainted
Clean slates
Marked by stray and careless
Brushes
With a darker realm
From which we returned
But not without consequence

I say
Let these things
Not fester unchecked
But neither should they be
Restrained
Repressed
Rejected
As all is one
But neither integrated
Rather
Observed now
And as such exposed
To be used when necessary
To demonstrate
That there is always deeper water
In even the most unassuming bodies
That behind every smile
Lie rows of teeth

We are imperfect by nature
Infected by
The impurity of existence
To deny this is to demonstrate
A lack of understanding
But to come to acceptance
Not to be confused with resignation
Is to rise above
To shine hope
To impart wisdom
To heal
So heal now
And be well

    And here we see clearly

    What could have been
    And what still can be
    In the static scenery”
