Free-Verse Poetry

This was inspired by the post Support, by the ever-lovely Blackbird.

I have seen
The blaze that burns bright behind your auburn eyes
Like a signal flare
It calls me
Both to bed
As well as to battle.

You see
I see
What rests within you now:
A warrior
Decorated with highest honors
Biding time as children squabble.

I assure you
That your day will come again
To rise and take
This world by storm;
Your strength grows daily
As your opponent’s rest on laurels.

Both now and in time
I will stand by your side
Though fire may fall swift upon our heads,
Though gale winds may rage around us,
Though the ground may open up beneath us,
We will persevere.

Know now and always:
There are distinctions to be made.
I will amplify your words
But I will never speak for you.
I will support you
But I will never stand in your place.

For you are strong,
Immense in potential
With only azure skies above you
And nothing to stand in your way;
I, the world
Await your ascension.

As the sun rises anew each day,
Bringing with it fresh light and endless opportunity,
We will grasp both between our palms
Hand in hand, heart in mind
Not tethered
Skyward bound.

And as we rise
We will rain down
Lines of love
Ready to recall
Ready to draw up
All who grab hold.

In the end
Partner, ally
Lover, friend
The bonds all blend
But what remains the same:
People need other people.

    This was my favourite part ! It speaks of strength, trust, belief and so much love I can only imagine, how beautiful all this could be !

    1. Those were quite enjoyable to write as well. They may seem dramatic, but there are certainly times where such realities present themselves and choices must be made…
