Truth is Blind

This piece was inspired by the piece By the Light of the Lying Moon, written by Maggie L of the blog The Art of Chewing Crayons.

Truth is blind
Careless even
In the way it staggers about
Seeing only what is
Rather than
What could be
Stumbling over
Dreams and ambitions
Strewn in wake of
Half-life humans

We have all walked
The same landscape
But we have not
Walked the same roads
Nor can we ever expect to

Satellite eyes
Watch
Every move we make
As we navigate this course
Unaware
Or uncaring
Of the audience that gathers
Fixed upon
Every step we take
Waiting with breath held deep
At the chance of a slip
Silently praying
For us to fall
So they can cue the laugh track
Roll credits
30-second spots for
The next home innovation

The Earth beneath us holds the only truth that matters
And the sky is a coward
Distant ever
From the battle beneath
Yet quick to comment
On missed opportunity
On poor choices and sinful acts

Let the stars bleed light
And the moons collect it in pools
On their empty, dead surfaces
That brave souls may someday stand atop
Mounds of coagulated crimson
Wondering only momentarily at the mystery
Before they depart for the next frontier

    1. Exactly. A subjective interpretation of events, cause and effect, context, and perceived bias… We act on truth so often, usually in real time, and seldom are we able to find the space and time to process our decisions fully.

When I write I worry that others won’t be able to follow the vague crumbs I leave as I hide behind my words. Hiding is a fool’s game with you as you see to the nakedness of my intent every time. You counter my melancholic longing with hope and I love that you can.

    So beautifully written my friend.

    1. I would say the same goes for you. You always parse my poems with precision. I am eternally grateful for that. Our words draw from similar sources… Distant relatives in a fragmented and scattered family.

Thank you for all that you do, write, think, and are Maggie. You are a beautiful piece of this tapestry that is poetic expression and collaboration.

  3. I couldn’t agree with you more on how you said truth sees only what is rather than what could be. You write really fresh perspectives on things that we hardly ever get to read about. Looking forward to more 😀
