A Goodbye

When we met
We were but two ends of the same string
Burning slowly towards one another
Each inch of wispy ash that fell to the floor
Bringing us closer to one another;
The rush was exhilarating.

The warmth of the other beckoned;
Our fates were sealed.

But when we finally met
It would seem the string simply fell away
A line of grey
On a floor of pristine white.

Yes, when our flames met
They rejoiced
Ever so briefly
And danced
And flickered for all to see,
But two flames cannot sustain.

Without the substrate
Through which our passions were fed
We fell
Apart.

Now we each burn brightly
Purged and renewed
At the end
Of a new beginning.

I hope that your flame grows
And that you consume all that stands in your way
Eager to meet with your fate
And those who will come to love you
Who will be there with you
As you continue ever forward
As far as you can go.

I will not be waiting
When you reach the other side.

Goodbye, Wildflower.
